CNC — France¶
In France, no film may be shown commercially without a visa d'exploitation issued by the culture ministry on advice of the CNC classification commission. Classification is mandatory and legally binding.
Rating tiers¶
| Tier | Meaning |
|---|---|
| TP | Tous publics — all audiences |
| 12 | Prohibited under 12 |
| 16 | Prohibited under 16 |
| 18 | Prohibited under 18 |
| X | Restricted circuit |
A distinctive feature: any tier may additionally carry an avertissement — a formal warning about specific content — without raising the age.
What this means for ads and trailers¶
Trailers require their own visa, and cinema advertising is screened for suitability against the audience of the session. The avertissement mechanism means even "tous publics" content can carry flags a publisher needs to know about.

The DCProof Age Report estimates the CNC tier of your ad or trailer before submission, with timecoded findings per criterion.
